Mr Ukpong Udo Ekam was born in Afagha Ikot Ebak, Essien Udim Local Government. (Former Central Annang). He was educated in Independence High School, Ukana Ikot Ntuen. He a graduate from Strayer University in Washington, DC, U. S. A
He is the President /CEO of Mek Environmental Services, Inc in Washington, DC Metropolitan area and former co-principals of Access International Press, Inc - a printing and publishing firm in the State of Maryland.
He is the founding member of Nto Annang Foundation, Inc (NAF) and presided over the Washington/Baltimore Chapter of the organisation for about six years. Ukpong Ekam has been at the forefront of the demand for the creation of Itai State. He's also a member of Okop Usem Leadership Council [OULC] (a pan Cross River/Akwa Ibom States political action and policy advocacy group).
He co-founded and hosted “GoodDay Africa Radio Talkshow”, a radio program dealing with issues affecting Africans and Caribbean in Diaspora. As a correspondent for African Newsweekly Tabloid, he covered African Embassies, ethnic organisations, and international organisations in Washington, DC. He was the Bureau Chief for the PolicyWorld magazine in the same city. He founded Nigeria-Israeli Friendship Association (NIFA) and was its first President.
Ukpong contested an election to represent Ward 6 in Takoma Park City Council, Maryland. He has been active in the US local, state and presidential elections up to the Clinton years and was appointed to serve in social and economic commissions and committees that focus on community development and redevelopment. He is a leading advocate and strong voice for the immigrants in the City of Takoma Park. Mr. Ekam was one of senate aspirants for Ikot Ekpene senatorial District in 2007. He is member of BOD of several NGOs.
