Annang Heritage Calls For The Creation Another State From Akwa Ibom

The Annang Heritage Preservation organization has called for the creation a new state out of the present Akwa Ibom State in Nigeria. In a position paper released by the organization and signed by its president, Prof. Ezekiel Ette, a university professor in the United States, Dr. Michael Eshiett a UK based neurologist and Vice President of the organization and Barrister Uduak Ukpeh of the UK and the organization's general secretary,  the organization called on Nigeria to create a new state to be called Itai State with headquarters in Ikot Ekpene. The organization argues that since the states are the basis for sharing the oil wealth, it becomes an issue of justice for another state to be given to those in the Niger Delta whose land and waters are polluted by oil exploration. The creation of another state, the paper argues, will ensure that development is made available at the grassroots. The paper further argues that old provincial boundaries have been made into states elsewhere in the country while those in the south south have been neglected. Annang Heritage Preservation Inc. is a world-wide organization of Annang indigenes scattered around the world with the sole aim of harnessing the intellectual capital of the Annangs around the world for the development of the homeland. Membership is open to all Annangs at home and abroad and include many prominent people.
